Giresse Hails Senegal’s Focus and Form After 3–0 Win Over Botswana
Senegal head coach Alain Giresse has praised his team’s professionalism and defensive discipline following their commanding 3–0 victory over Botswana in the final round of the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Despite having already secured qualification ahead of the match, the Lions of Teranga showed no signs of complacency in Dakar, producing a dominant display to close out their Group encounter in style.
Speaking after the match, Giresse expressed his satisfaction with the team’s continued focus and consistency.
“It’s a great satisfaction to see that, even though qualification was already secured, the team remained committed to winning,” said the Frenchman. “That’s important. They maintained their level and showed real quality, even with the number of changes we made.”
The performance capped off a strong qualifying campaign for Senegal, who conceded just one goal across all six group matches — a statistic Giresse highlighted with pride.
“Only one goal conceded in all of the qualifiers — that’s significant,” he said. “It speaks to the balance of the team and our defensive solidity. Heading into the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, this shows Senegal has no limits.”
Senegal’s display against Botswana not only reaffirmed their position among the tournament favourites but also gave opportunities to several fringe players, who stepped in seamlessly as Giresse rotated his squad.
With the tournament in Equatorial Guinea fast approaching, Senegal will be looking to build on this momentum as they chase their first continental title.
