The frontrunner in Group C of the AFCON 2023, is meticulously preparing for its upcoming match. The strategic behind-closed-doors training session held yesterday provided valuable insights into the team’s tactical preparations and player dynamics.

The training ground saw the participation of substitutes and players not involved in the triumph over Gambia, including Iliman Ndiaye, Nampalys Mendy, Pathé Ciss, and Abdoulaye Seck.

Additionally, prominent figures like Gana Gueye, Bamba Dieng, Niakhate Ndiaye, Nicolas Jackson, Abdallah Sima, Mory Diaw, and Alfred Gomis were present, highlighting the depth and versatility of Senegal’s squad. Notably, fullback Fode Ballo-Toure, instrumental in the previous game, was spared towards the end of the session.

The intensity of the training session, lasting over two hours, showcased the commitment of the players as they fine-tune their skills and strategies for the challenges ahead.

Notably, Pathé Ciss and Pape Matar Sarr displayed resilience during exercises, momentarily collapsing on the pitch but demonstrating their determination to push through.

Acknowledging the rigorous post-match routine, the regular starters underwent a recovery session and rested at the hotel, absent from the training ground the following day.

Notable absences included Cheikhou Kouyate, who had to leave the team due to the unfortunate passing of his father, and the yet-to-be-fit Youssouf Sabaly, whose availability for the second match remains uncertain.

As Senegal prepares for its next crucial fixture, scheduled two days from now, the closed-door training session on Wednesday is expected to involve 25 players.

The team remains optimistic despite challenges, with Moussa Niakhate, who was substituted in the previous match, reassuring fans during a post-game interview in the mixed zone.

The anticipation builds as Senegal aims to maintain its stellar performance in the ongoing AFCON 2023 tournament.
