Senegalese winger Assane Diao has expressed surprise at how well he has settled into life at Como since joining the Italian club in January.
The forward, who made the switch from Real Betis, has quickly found his rhythm in Serie A, making an immediate impact on the team.
Thw 19-year-old has five goals in 11 games since join the newly promoted club.
Speaking to Como’s official website, Diao admitted that his start at the club had exceeded his expectations.
He credited his smooth adaptation to the support he has received from his new teammates and the coaching staff.
Diao also highlighted the key role played by Como’s head coach, Cesc Fabregas, in his decision to join the club. He revealed that speaking directly with the former Spanish international gave him confidence in the move.
“No, the truth is that I didn’t imagine starting like this. Of course, it was what I wanted and hoped for, but I was also aware that this is a difficult league and that the initial impact could have been complicated.
“Thanks to my teammates and the technical staff, however, I adapted very well right away.”
Diao added: “I spoke with Fàbregas, who explained to me the project, the vision and what he had in mind for me and for the development of the team.
“It was very important to speak directly with him; after that chat, I no longer had any doubts and I chose Como.”
