The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has confirmed that its elective General Assembly will take place on 2 August 2025.
The date was formally set following a meeting of the FSF Executive Committee held on Wednesday, with the announcement made public on Thursday.
The timing of the Assembly is particularly notable as it coincides with the opening day of the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN), raising questions about the logistical overlap between the two significant events.
However, FSF officials were quick to allay any concerns, emphasizing that both proceedings would run smoothly without compromising the transparency or integrity of the electoral process.
“The FSF assures that the organization of these two events on the same day will not affect the serenity or transparency of the ongoing electoral process,” the federation stated.
The Assembly will mark another critical juncture in the governance of Senegalese football, as stakeholders look ahead to potentially new leadership or a continuation of the current administration.
Yet, a key question remains unanswered: will the incumbent president, Augustin Senghor, seek re-election?
Senghor, who has presided over the FSF since 2009, has not yet declared his intentions regarding a new term.
His long tenure has overseen substantial growth and international recognition for Senegalese football, including the senior national team’s Africa Cup of Nations triumph in 2022 and consistent World Cup participation.
Despite this, speculation is mounting about possible shifts within the federation, particularly as new voices and ambitions begin to surface within the national football landscape.
No official candidates have been confirmed so far, and the coming weeks are expected to provide greater clarity as the electoral process gains momentum.
In the meantime, the FSF is moving ahead with preparations, ensuring that the statutory and procedural requirements are met in the lead-up to the August assembly.
As the countdown to the General Assembly begins, attention will remain firmly fixed on whether Senghor opts to extend his leadership or pave the way for new stewardship.
Either decision is likely to shape the trajectory of Senegalese football in the years ahead.
With the CHAN tournament also set to commence on the same date, August 2 is poised to be a defining moment for Senegalese sport, both on and off the pitch.
