SENEGAL: DIOUF ACCUSED OF INSTIGATING VIOLENCE

Diouf

Once again, Diouf finds himself embroiled in controversy. Following the defeat of the Teranga Lions and the subsequent violent incidents that led to the premature end of the match against Ivory Coast, the Leeds striker and idol of Senegalese supporters is now facing accusations from the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) for allegedly inciting violence.

Augustin Senghor, the head of the FSF, expressed his belief that the violence was a deliberate attempt to destabilize Senegalese football. He accused Diouf of being involved in a setup, suggesting that someone offered tickets to hooligans with the intention of disrupting the match at Léopold-Sédar-Senghor Stadium. Senghor claimed that this orchestrated incident aimed to tarnish the reputation of Senegalese football, potentially leading to a suspension. According to Senghor, the motive is to criticize Senegal in front of the fans and the nation. In this scenario, Diouf is singled out as a key figure in the alleged plot.

Diouf, in response, vehemently denied any involvement in inciting violence. On Monday, he denounced the confiscation of the 1,000 tickets he had generously offered to the public. Diouf placed blame on the FSF leadership, accusing them of attempting to destroy Senegalese football. He argued that the federation members are seeking a scapegoat in him, emphasizing that he is not on the field.
