Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw has called on the government to ensure the national team receives full logistical support as they prepare for two vital 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against Sudan and Togo.
Speaking at a press conference following the squad announcement, Thiaw stressed the importance of optimal preparation and recovery, given the short turnaround between the fixtures.
Appeal for Better Logistics
With Senegal set to face Sudan in Libya before returning home to host Togo, the coach urged the Senegalese government and the national football federation (FSF) to provide the necessary resources to help his squad perform at their best.
“These are two crucial matches, and we are preparing thoroughly. I hope the state and the FSF will do everything possible to create the best conditions for us, especially considering the tight two-day gap between fixtures. Recovery will be absolutely essential,” Thiaw stated.
Concerns Over Travel and Recovery
One of the primary concerns raised by the coach was the challenge of travel logistics. Thiaw emphasized the need for proper arrangements to ensure the players return home swiftly after the Sudan match, particularly given the demands of the holy month of Ramadan.
The coach also expressed his hope that the French Football Federation (FFF) would assist in providing charter flights to reduce travel fatigue and maximize recovery time between games.
As Senegal look to strengthen their position in the World Cup qualifiers, Thiaw’s call for improved support highlights the importance of meticulous planning in their campaign.
