Abdallah Sima’s availability for Senegal’s upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers is in doubt after the forward sustained an injury during Brest’s victory over Angers on March 9.
Despite his fitness concerns, head coach Pape Thiaw has included the striker in his squad for the crucial fixtures against Sudan on March 22 and Togo on March 25.
Doubts Over Sima’s Fitness
Sima’s call-up has sparked uncertainty, with his club coach, Eric Roy, expressing skepticism over the player’s readiness. Speaking about the situation, Roy acknowledged that the 22-year-old has yet to return to training with Brest.
“In any case, he hasn’t returned to training with us, so I consider him still injured,” Roy said. However, he made it clear that national team matters were beyond his control, adding, “After that, I don’t deal with the national teams.”
Senegal to Conduct Medical Evaluation
With the player set to join the Senegalese camp, the national team’s medical staff will now assess his condition to determine whether he can take part in the qualifiers.
If Sima is not deemed fit to play, his inclusion in the squad may have been primarily to allow the medical team to confirm the extent of his injury.
Senegal, who are among the strong contenders in their qualifying group, will be keen to have a fully fit squad as they aim to take another step toward securing a place at the 2026 World Cup.
Sima’s potential absence would be a setback for Thiaw’s side, but a final decision on his availability will only be made after further evaluation.
