Former Real Madrid midfielder Luis Milla has suggested that the club should consider selling Brazilian forward of Cameroonian descent Vinícius Júnior and reinvesting the proceeds into strengthening the squad.
The winger has recently been linked with a high-profile transfer to Saudi Arabia following a string of impressive performances for the Spanish champions.
Vinícius arrived at the Santiago Bernabéu in 2018 from Flamengo in a deal reportedly worth €45 million.
Since then, he has become a key player for Los Blancos, making 306 appearances, scoring 103 goals, and providing 73 assists.
His contributions have been instrumental in Real Madrid’s success, helping them secure two UEFA Champions League trophies, three LaLiga titles, and a Copa del Rey.
Despite his influence on the pitch, Milla believes the club should part ways with the Brazilian.
Speaking to El Desmarque, he explained that if he were in charge, he would prioritize selling Vinícius to accommodate Kylian Mbappé in his preferred left-wing position.
He also raised concerns about the player’s public image, which he suggested does not always reflect positively on the club.
“If I were a sporting director, I would sell Vinicius and buy a striker to allow (Kylian) Mbappé to play on the left wing.
“Vini is a great player, but the club must also consider the image he transmits. Yes, his performances are at a high level, but his image is not always the best.
“He has a significant market value and Real Madrid could reinvest that money in big purchases.”
Vinícius is currently enjoying another stellar season, having netted 18 goals and provided 13 assists in 41 appearances for Real Madrid.
He remains under contract with the reigning LaLiga champions until the summer of 2027.
