‘Sell Guehi; you’re not going to tie him down’ – Jordan to Crystal Palace

Former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan believes the club should cash in on centre-back Marc Guehi this summer amid growing interest from top Premier League clubs, including Liverpool.

Guehi, who is of Ivorian descent, is on the radar of Liverpool manager Arne Slot as a potential replacement for Jarell Quansah, who is close to completing a move to Bayer Leverkusen.

The 24-year-old defender is also being tracked by Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur, with Crystal Palace reportedly valuing him at £50 million despite having just a year left on his current deal.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Jordan argued that Palace are unlikely to extend Guehi’s contract and should therefore sell to avoid losing him for free next summer.

“Sell him unless you can tie him down – you’re not going to tie him down, are you?” he said. “They took the roll of the dice last year… now they’re against the clock.”

Jordan added that clubs like Palace face inevitable difficulty in retaining players when elite sides like Liverpool come calling.

“When Liverpool come knocking as a top footballer, the Premier League champions, you say: ‘I’ll have a bit of that, thank you very much.’”

Palace, under manager Oliver Glasner, are expected to face a pivotal decision in the coming weeks.

With Guehi increasingly seen as one of the most valuable English defenders in the market, the club may have no choice but to accept a significant bid to avoid both sporting and financial losses.
