Moroccan international midfielder Selim Amallah, fondly referred to as the “Lion of the Atlas,” has shared his joy and ambitions as he prepares to represent his nation in the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 in Ivory Coast.
Amallah, who plies his trade with Valencia, expressed his enthusiasm for his second consecutive participation in the prestigious tournament.
Selected by Coach Walid Regragui to be part of the 27-man squad heading to Ivory Coast, the 27-year-old midfielder conveyed his excitement about the opportunity to compete at the continental level once again.
In a video posted on Valencia’s official X account, Amallah conveyed his happiness, stating, “I am very happy to participate in my 2nd AFCON.
I am happy to represent my country once again. We will do everything to make the Moroccan supporters and people proud. We will give everything to bring this cup home.”
Amallah’s dedication to making a positive impact on the field for Morocco reflects the collective goal of the team to vie for the AFCON title and bring joy to their compatriots.
The midfielder’s commitment to the national cause is palpable, and he aims to contribute to the success of the Atlas Lions in the tournament.
In light of his national team duties, Amallah will be absent from Valencia’s upcoming match against Cartagena on January 7, 2024, in the Copa del Rey’s round of 16 at the Municipal Cartagonova stadium.
As the Atlas Lions enter the final phase of the Ivorian tournament, they find themselves in Group F, facing tough competitors such as Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Zambia.
The journey kicks off on January 17 against the Étoiles du Kilimanjaro, followed by matches against the Leopards on January 21 and the Chipolopolos on January 24—all set to take place at the Laurent Pokou stadium in San Pédro.
Amallah, along with his teammates, is poised to embrace the challenge and strive for success in the upcoming continental football spectacle.
