Sekou Lega: French centre-forward linked with move to Al-Bataeh CSC in UAE Premier League

Al-Bataeh CSC have completed the signing of centre-forward Sekou Lega from UAE Pro League rivals Kalba FC on a permanent deal, with the transfer officially registered to begin on 2026-02-08. The move keeps the 23-year-old in the United Arab Emirates’ top flight, where he will continue his career under the Al-Bataeh banner. Details of the transfer fee have not been disclosed, while his latest market valuation stands at €150k.

Lega, who holds both French and Malian nationality, arrives at Al-Bataeh as a recognised central attacking option. Standing at 1.92m and operating primarily as a centre-forward, he reinforces the club’s frontline for the ongoing UAE Pro League campaign. His contract with Al-Bataeh is confirmed to run until 2026-02-08, after which he is currently scheduled to become a free agent unless an extension is agreed.

The switch marks Lega’s second move within the UAE in quick succession. He joined Kalba FC from Saudi Arabian side Al-Riyadh SC ahead of the 25/26 season, having previously played in the Saudi Pro League setup. Before arriving in the Gulf region, Lega developed in France, progressing through several tiers of Olympique Lyon’s youth structure and gaining senior experience in French football.

Born in Paris on 21 Jan 2003, Lega first entered Olympique Lyon’s system from CS Bretigny Youth, moving through Olympique Lyon Youth, the U17s, and then the U19s. He stepped up to Olympique Lyon B for the 21/22 season, establishing himself at reserve level. In 2023 he left Lyon B on loan for SC Bastia, a spell that was formally concluded as an “end of loan” return in early 2024 before he ultimately departed France for the Middle East.

Lega’s market value has fluctuated in recent seasons but has largely remained in the six-figure range. It was first recorded at €150k with Olympique Lyon B in early and mid-2023, dropped to €100k with Lyon B in late 2024, then climbed to €200k during his time at Al-Riyadh SC in 2025. By late 2025, after his move to Kalba FC, his value was again assessed at €150k.

His career path now forms a clear arc: from the French youth and reserve leagues with Lyon’s various age groups, to Ligue 2–level experience at SC Bastia, then on to the professional scene in Saudi Arabia with Al-Riyadh SC, and most recently into the UAE Pro League with Kalba FC and now Al-Bataeh CSC. Each move has kept him within competitive environments, but with differing tactical demands and levels of physicality.

This latest transfer also positions Lega for another key contract decision at the end of his current deal. With his agreement at Al-Bataeh CSC due to expire on 2026-02-08, the forward is on a timetable that could see him enter the market as a free agent at a relatively young age, offering potential flexibility for his next move. For now, however, his focus shifts to making an immediate impact for Al-Bataeh CSC in the UAE Pro League, where his height, central attacking profile, and dual-nationality background add a new dimension to the club’s attacking options.
