Sékou Kaba has opened up about his decision to depart Manchester United and sign his first professional contract with Cardiff City, marking a significant new chapter in his career.
After progressing through the ranks of United’s academy, the young striker opted for a move to the English Championship, turning down the opportunity to stay at Old Trafford.
Cardiff City’s sporting project proved to be the decisive factor in his choice, as he seeks to accelerate his development with more first-team opportunities.
“Signing for Cardiff City was an incredible experience. The welcome was warm, and I immediately felt it was the perfect place for me. “I had the opportunity to speak with the first-team director, who explained the club’s plan to me in detail. This reassured me of my choice, and I’m happy to be joining Cardiff. My goal is to work hard to continue improving.”
Kaba had been highly regarded within Manchester United’s youth system, playing a key role in the club’s U14 championship-winning side.
As he continued to develop, his performances attracted interest from several other British clubs, making his decision to leave all the more significant.
Explaining his choice to sign with Cardiff, Kaba emphasized the importance of gaining first-team experience as quickly as possible.
Several clubs were interested in me, including Stoke City, Swansea City, and Norwich City.
But after discussions with my management team, we felt Cardiff was the best option.
And we have absolutely no regrets about that decision. It’s an ideal setting for a great experience and to progress.
I chose Cardiff because it offers me a more direct path to the first team.
I’ll be playing with the U21s rather than the U18s, which is a real plus for my progression.
Kaba now looks forward to seizing his opportunity with Cardiff, hoping to make strides towards his ultimate goal of breaking into senior professional football.
