Seko Fofana has reiterated his dedication to the Ivory Coast national team, emphasizing his pride in representing the Elephants and his ambitions for the future.

Speaking on the Talents d’Afrique programme, the Stade Rennais midfielder reflected on his nation’s recent Africa Cup of Nations triumph and the team’s goals moving forward.

Having made a high-profile move to Saudi Arabia, Fofana returned to European football in January 2025, joining Ligue 1 side Rennes.

Since his arrival, he has steadily established himself as a key player, featuring in eight matches, four of them as a starter.

His experience and physical presence in midfield have added a new dimension to the Breton side.

However, beyond club football, Fofana remains deeply committed to the Ivorian national team.

His contribution to the Elephants’ victorious AFCON 2023 campaign was pivotal, and his emotional connection to his country remains as strong as ever.

“An indescribable pride”

Reflecting on Ivory Coast’s AFCON success, Fofana described the triumph as a moment of pure joy, not just for the players but for the entire nation.

“It was incredible to win an AFCON with your country, to see the joy and love in the eyes of the people who attended the matches. It’s something you have to experience to understand,” he said.

He recalled the euphoric celebrations in Abidjan after the title win, with thousands of fans following the team’s victory parade through the city.

“When we won the CAN, we drove around Abidjan by bus, and everyone followed us. Obviously, it makes you want to give everything for your country. Many people identify with us. Everyone is united and proud to be Ivorian. As long as I am called upon, it will always be a pleasure for me to be there and help the future generation that is coming up,” he added.

Fofana’s words leave no doubt about his commitment to the national team.

Despite previous speculation over his international future, he made it clear that he remains fully invested in the Elephants’ ongoing journey.

Confidence in Emerse Faé and future ambitions

Looking ahead, Fofana is optimistic about the team’s future under coach Emerse Faé.

With the next AFCON and World Cup qualification on the horizon, he believes Ivory Coast has the potential to build on their recent success.

“Everything is going well in the national team. The coach (Emerse Faé) is a competitor, we all have this mentality. The ambitions are to perform well in the next CAN, win it again, and qualify for the World Cup. The question is very simple,” he stated.

With a talented squad and a winning mindset, Ivory Coast is aiming for continued success on the continental and global stage.

Fofana, determined to play his part, remains a central figure in the team’s ambitions.
