Sekhukhune United appoint Papi Zothwane after Cedric Kaze departure

Sekhukhune United have appointed Papi Zothwane as their new head coach after confirming that Cedric Kaze has left the club by mutual agreement with immediate effect.

The change comes after the Babina Noko suffered three successive defeats by Orlando Pirates within the space of seven days. Kaze, who previously worked as a co-coach at Kaizer Chiefs, has consequently departed the club.

Zothwane will now lead Sekhukhune United’s technical team, with Paulus Masehe assisting him. Nascent Nkhwashu will remain in his position as goalkeeper coach.

The club formally announced the coaching changes in a statement, while also thanking Kaze for his work during his time in charge.

“Sekhukhune United Football Club announces that Head Coach Cedric Kaze has departed from the Club by mutual agreement, with immediate effect.

“The Club expresses its sincere appreciation to Coach Kaze for his dedication, professionalism, and contribution during his tenure, and wishes him every success in his future endeavours.

“As part of the coaching transition, Papi Zothwane has been appointed to lead the technical team as Head Coach, assisted by Paulus Masehe while Nascent Nkhwashu will continue in his role as Goalkeeper Coach.

“The Club remains focused on ensuring stability, continuity, and a smooth transition as the team prepares for the challenges ahead”

Kaze’s exit follows the difficult sequence against Orlando Pirates, with Sekhukhune United losing to the same opponents three times in seven days. The club has now responded by making an immediate change to its coaching structure rather than leaving the position vacant.

Zothwane’s appointment places him at the centre of the team’s next phase, supported by Masehe and the continued presence of Nkhwashu. Sekhukhune United said the arrangement was intended to provide stability and continuity while preparations continue for the challenges ahead.

The club described Kaze’s departure as a mutually agreed decision and expressed its appreciation for his dedication, professionalism and contribution. It also wished the former Kaizer Chiefs co-coach success in his future endeavours.

With Zothwane now taking over as head coach, Sekhukhune United will look to ensure a smooth transition under the revised technical team.
