Namibia capitalized on its dominance throughout the game, securing a late goal in the 89th minute by Dion Hotto, a South African player from Orlando Pirates.
This marked the first victory for the team known as the “Brave Warriors.”
In another match, Burkina Faso initiated its campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Mauritania through a penalty kick at the Peace Stadium in Bouake, in the first round of Group D.
The decisive goal was scored in the sixth minute of stoppage time, with Bertrand Traore converting a penalty kick, securing three points for Burkina Faso and placing them atop the group, two points ahead of both Algeria and Angola, who drew 1-1 on Monday.
This loss marks the sixth in seven matches for the Mauritanian national team in its third consecutive appearance in the continental competition.
Their only goal during this period was scored in a 1-4 defeat against Mali in 2019.
