Seattle Sounders secure Cameroonian defender Nouhou Tolo with long-term contract extension
Nouhou Tolo will continue his journey in Major League Soccer after signing a new long-term contract with Seattle Sounders FC, keeping the Cameroonian defender at the club until 2029 with an option for an additional year.
The American side confirmed the deal in a press release announcing contract renewals for several players, ensuring that Nouhou remains a key part of the squad he has represented since joining the club in 2017.
The 27-year-old has grown into one of the most reliable defenders in the Sounders’ setup over the years, becoming a fan favorite thanks to his pace, defensive discipline, and tireless work rate on the left flank. His new agreement will see him stay with the club through the 2028–2029 season, with an option that could extend his stay to the 2029–2030 campaign.
Sounders General Manager and Chief Soccer Officer Craig Waibel highlighted the importance of retaining key members of the squad as the club looks to maintain stability and continue competing at the highest level.
“Securing Nouhou, Alex, Danny and Osaze is an important step in maintaining continuity within our roster,” Waibel said.
“Nouhou and Alex have been core members of this group for years and understand the standard that comes with representing this club. Danny and Osaze both showed last season that they can be impactful attacking players in our league. Rewarding players who have performed and committed themselves to the team is a priority for us, and we’re pleased to keep this group together as we continue building toward our goals.”
Since arriving in Seattle, Nouhou has established himself as a cornerstone of the Sounders’ defense, contributing to several successful campaigns and cementing his reputation as one of the most consistent African defenders in MLS.
With his future now secured, the Cameroonian international will be hoping to continue playing a pivotal role as Seattle Sounders push for further domestic success in the coming seasons.
