Former Egyptian national team star Sayed Moawad has offered insights into Al Ahly’s recent performance against Medeama SC of Ghana, highlighting the team’s commendable victory and its implications for the upcoming match against Young Africans.
Moawad noted a significant improvement in the team’s performance during the second half, contrasting it with previous matches where Al Ahly tended to excel in the first half but falter in the second.
Speaking on the “Box to Box” program, Moawad stated, “Al Ahly focused on one strategy, which was exploiting the flanks, and succeeded in sealing the victory with a goal from Hussein El Shahat, securing their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals.”
Moawad, a former Al Ahly player himself, continued, “TP Mazembe is one of the strongest teams, especially at their home ground.
Pyramids FC also displayed a good performance in the first half-hour, but suddenly conceded goals.
Mazembe always dominates on their home turf, and in my view, they are as strong as Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns due to the atmosphere and the quality of their players.”
Analyzing individual performances, Moawad praised Karim Nedved’s return from injury, describing him as one of the standout players in the 4-3-3 formation.
However, he lamented Nedved’s misfortune with injuries.
He also commented on Amr El Solia’s performance, stating that while it didn’t meet expectations, his participation after a long absence was acceptable.
Moawad noted that coach Pitso Mosimane now has multiple options in midfield, with Akram Tawfik excelling in that role.
Regarding Modeste’s performance, Moawad noted that the match against Medeama wasn’t conducive to his strengths, which primarily lie in aerial play.
He attributed this to the team’s style of play not being compatible with the player.
Moawad concluded by mentioning positive performances from Wessam Abou Ali and Walid Azaro, highlighting the latter’s numerous scoring opportunities and significant impact on the team.
Regarding Kahraba’s situation, Moawad clarified that any statement made by Kahraba was likely based on an agreement between him and Coach Mosimane, emphasizing that if the coach had wanted him, Kahraba would have traveled with the team without any issues.
