Saudi club Neom in talks with Cameroon goalkeeper André Onana over big money move

Andre Onana

Neom SC have opened talks with Manchester United goalkeeper André Onana as they prepare for a major summer spending spree ahead of their anticipated promotion to the Saudi Pro League.

According to Foot Mercato, the Saudi club is determined to strengthen its squad with high-profile signings, and securing a top-class goalkeeper is a priority.

Discussions have begun between Neom officials and Onana’s representatives over a potential transfer.

Onana, a Cameroon international, has endured a challenging season at Old Trafford under current manager Ruben Amorim.

His struggles have led to uncertainty over his long-term future at Manchester United, despite having a contract that runs until 2028.

United’s leadership is reportedly open to offers should the right proposal arrive, particularly given the need to reshape the squad after a disappointing campaign.

Neom are said to be aggressively pursuing players with international pedigree to ensure a strong debut in the top flight.

In addition to Onana, the club is targeting Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne, who is expected to leave the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season.

De Bruyne’s potential move would signal Neom’s ambition to attract marquee names capable of immediately impacting the Saudi Pro League.

The discussions with Onana are still at an early stage, but Neom’s financial resources and growing appeal could prove persuasive.

The club’s rise coincides with a broader effort across Saudi Arabian football to lure high-calibre talent from Europe’s biggest leagues, following the successful arrivals of several global stars over the past year.

For Onana, a move could offer an opportunity to reboot his career after a turbulent year in England.
