FIFA President Gianni Infantino has defended Saudi Arabia’s successful bid to host the 2034 World Cup, emphasizing that the decision was made with global unity in mind.
Saudi Arabia was officially awarded hosting rights during the FIFA Congress last December. However, the Norwegian Football Association criticized the decision, questioning the process.
Addressing the concerns while speaking in Belfast, Infantino stated, “There was a decision from the congress that unites the whole world.”
“I think it was a very positive step for football. We have to bring everyone to the table. We will go to North America in 2026, then to South America, then to Africa, then to Europe in 2030, and we will return to Asia in 2034.
He also stressed that the selection process was based on a comprehensive review, saying, “The FIFA Congress agreed to that, and the decision was made after a thorough report on all these matters.”
Before the 2034 tournament, the 2030 World Cup will be co-hosted by Morocco, Spain, and Portugal.
