Decisive ruling: Samuel Eto’o triumphs in dispute with Geremi Njitap
has emerged victorious in a long-running dispute with former teammate Geremi Njitap after the Court of Arbitration for Sport dismissed an appeal linked to the representation of footballers in Cameroon.
The decision brings an end to a legal contest that has lasted more than a year and a half, pitting the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation against the National Union of Cameroonian Footballers.
In a statement issued on Monday, Fecafoot confirmed that the Court of Arbitration for Sport had rejected the appeal filed by the National Union of Cameroonian Footballers and its president Geremi.
“The Cameroonian Football Federation informs the public that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), by decision rendered today, has rejected the appeal lodged by the National Union of Cameroonian Footballers (Synafoc).”
The case originated at the end of 2024 when Geremi challenged a decision by Fecafoot to withdraw Synafoc’s accreditation as the official representative body for footballers in the country.
That recognition had been transferred to another organisation, the National Association of Cameroonian Footballers.
Following the initial decision, Synafoc sought to contest the ruling through the Chamber of Conciliation and Arbitration of the National Olympic and Sports Committee of Cameroon. However, that complaint was dismissed by the body.
Geremi, who previously played for clubs including Real Madrid, then took the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in what became the final stage of the dispute.
The CAS ruling now confirms the earlier decisions taken within Cameroon’s sports governance structures.
Fecafoot welcomed the outcome, stating that the verdict supports the legality of the actions taken by its governing bodies.
According to the federation, the decision “confirms the regularity and legality of the decisions made sovereignly by the competent bodies of Fecafoot.”
The ruling effectively concludes another chapter in the tense relationship between Eto’o and Geremi, who once shared the pitch as teammates for the Cameroon national football team.
While both men were key figures during Cameroon’s successful footballing era, their disagreement over the representation of players’ interests has evolved into one of the most visible administrative disputes in the country’s football landscape.
