Samuel Eto’o set to meet with sports minister Mouelle Kombi following reconciliation
Samuel Eto’o, the president of the Cameroon Football Federation (Fecafoot), is expected to meet with Sports Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi in the coming days, marking a significant moment of unity between the two figures after months of tension. This will be Eto’o’s first visit to the Ministry of Sports (Minsep) in several months, signaling a new chapter in their relationship.
The once-frosty dynamic between Eto’o and Kombi, which had seen the two at odds over control of the national football team’s management, has notably improved in recent weeks.
Their public reconciliation took place on September 29, where the two men, once embroiled in a power struggle, visibly put their differences aside.
Just days later, this newfound harmony was further solidified with the announcement of a unified national team staff, a structure shaped primarily by Eto’o’s leadership.
On Saturday, the changes began to take effect, with Marc Brys, the newly appointed national team coach, holding his first press conference at Fecafoot’s headquarters.
The Belgian coach unveiled his squad list for Cameroon’s upcoming double-header against Kenya on October 11 and 14, as part of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The positive momentum continues this week, with Eto’o scheduled to present the new national team staff to Minister Mouelle Kombi on Tuesday.
The Sports Minister’s technical advisor, Cyrille Tollo, confirmed the anticipated meeting during a televised interview on Sunday.
“On Tuesday, the Minister of Sports will receive the president of Fecafoot, who will come to present the new staff to him,” Tollo announced.
This visit marks a symbolic end to the tensions that had escalated earlier in the year. Back in May, relations had reached a breaking point when Tollo and Eto’o reportedly clashed during a heated exchange.
However, with both parties now focused on building a cooperative working relationship, the outlook for Cameroon’s football leadership appears much more stable.
For the Cameroonian national team, these developments come at a crucial time as they prepare for the next round of AFCON 2025 qualifiers.
The reconciliation between Fecafoot and the Ministry of Sports is expected to create a more cohesive environment as Cameroon seeks to secure its place in the prestigious tournament.
Samuel Eto’o’s upcoming visit to the Ministry of Sports represents a step forward not only for his leadership at Fecafoot but also for the future of Cameroonian football as a whole.
