Samuel Eto’o forges ahead with CAF Exco campaign despite no clarity over his status

Cameroon football legend Samuel Eto’o remains resolute in his quest for a CAF Executive Committee position even after there remains ongoing doubt regarding being reinstated.

The Cameroon Football Federation President is repeatedly calling on the fundamental football stakeholders across the continent, reiterating his backing of African football leadership as he travels around in a rigorous campaign.

Eto’o’s candidacy gained momentum when he joined ten African football association presidents at a high-profile gala dinner organized by the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) at the Taj Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka.

The event highlighted both Zambia’s achievements in women’s football and FAZ president Andrew Kamanga’s bid for a seat on the FIFA Council.

The gathering, where high-profile football figures such as CAF Vice President Hassan Souleiman Waberi, CECAFA President Wallace John Karia, and COSAFA Chief Said Ali Said Athouman were present, provided a strategic opportunity for Eto’o to rally support.

His determination follows a recent court victory, in which he defeated sanctions from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The sanctions, which involved a hefty USD 200,000 fine for alleged breaches of CAF Ethics principles, were overturned after an eight-month legal battle.

The CAF Appeals Board ruled that the Disciplinary Board had no jurisdiction, as such matters are subject to an independent Ethics Committee.

Despite this court victory, CAF has not yet publicly given its imprimatur of approval on Eto’o’s candidacy for the CAF Executive Committee seat.

But his campaign trail continues without any indications of abandoning his candidacy, which proves unwavering confidence in his campaign, as he continues advocating reforms in the administration of football in Africa.
