Samuel Chukwueze stars with goal and two assists as AC Milan thrash Manchester United

Samuel Chukwueze delivered a statement performance on Saturday as AC Milan swept aside Manchester United 4-2 in a pre-season friendly, directly contributing to three of the Italian side’s goals.

The Nigeria international played the full 90 minutes and was at the heart of Milan’s attacking display, scoring once and providing two assists to help his side secure a convincing victory.

Chukwueze responded to Manchester United’s early advantage by bringing Milan level with a composed finish. The winger latched onto a lay-off from Portuguese striker Goncalo Ramos before calmly finding the back of the net.

His influence continued after the interval, with Milan twice benefiting from his creativity as the game opened up.

Two assists underline Chukwueze’s impact

Manchester United regained the lead six minutes into the second half when Patrick Dorgu found the breakthrough, but Milan quickly responded through Alphadjo Cisse.

Chukwueze played a key role in the equaliser, supplying the assist that allowed Cisse to restore parity and put Milan back on level terms.

The former Villarreal attacker was not finished there. He produced another moment of quality when he delivered a precise cross into the box for Ramos, who rose to head Milan into the lead.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek then added a fourth goal to complete the scoring and cap a dominant showing from the Serie A giants.

Chukwueze makes case for bigger role

The performance will be particularly encouraging for Chukwueze as he looks to establish himself under new manager Ruben Amorim.

After spending last season on loan at Fulham, the Nigerian returned to Milan hoping to play a more prominent role in the new campaign. His display against United offered an early indication of what he can provide when given the opportunity.

With one goal and two assists against one of Europe’s biggest clubs, Chukwueze has given Amorim plenty to consider ahead of the new season.

The Super Eagles forward will now aim to carry the momentum from Saturday’s impressive outing into the competitive campaign as he seeks to become an important part of Milan’s plans.
