Midfielder Samir El Mourabet has opened up on his first call-up to the Morocco national team, describing it as the fulfilment of a lifelong ambition.

The 23-year-old earned a place in Ouahbi’s squad for the March 2026 international window, where Morocco will face Ecuador and Paraguay in friendly matches as part of preparations for their next World Cup campaign following their historic outing in Qatar.

In an interview with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, El Mourabet recounted the emotional moment he discovered he had been selected.

“We watched the coach’s press conference. I was at the hotel, we had a match that same evening, and I listened. When my name was mentioned, I was really happy. I felt there was recognition, and I was very proud to be selected for this gathering,” he said.

The call-up marks a significant milestone in the midfielder’s career, highlighting the progress he has made through his performances at the club level.

He also reflected on what the achievement means to his family, especially his father, who shared in the excitement.

“He was very happy for me and proud. It’s a feeling of pride for the whole family because I can represent my country. They told me to enjoy it and give everything for the nation,” the midfielder shared.

With Morocco continuing to build towards 2026, places in the squad remain highly competitive, and El Mourabet understands the challenge ahead.

“This was part of my dreams, and I have achieved it. Now I must continue. I must work to stay. The next goal is the World Cup. We will try to be part of this team, offer everything we can, and go as far as possible in the competition,” Mourabet stated.

He further expressed gratitude for the support from fans, acknowledging their role in motivating the team.

“I want to thank the fans. I’ve received many messages and a lot of encouragement. We feel that there is a great nation behind us, and that is a beautiful feeling.”

Morocco will use the upcoming friendlies to continue fine-tuning the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
