Samir Chergui has returned to action for Paris FC after a short injury absence, with his agent outlining the defender’s ambitions for Algeria and suggesting he could form a central defensive partnership with Ramy Bensebaini.
Chergui was rested as a precaution before Algeria’s meeting with Burundi after experiencing slight physical discomfort. The decision was also influenced by playing conditions considered unsuitable for a player still recovering.
The Paris FC defender has since resumed competition with his club, providing a positive update on his fitness ahead of Algeria’s next international commitments.
His agent discussed Chergui’s situation in an interview with Maghreb-Foot, including his health, his role with the national team and his prospects alongside Bensebaini.
Chergui enjoying Algeria involvement
Chergui is regarded positively by Algeria supporters because of his commitment and combative approach. His performances have helped him build a strong connection with the public, while his agent says the defender is particularly enthusiastic about representing the national team.
The player is understood to be fully invested in his experience with the Fennecs and welcomes the opportunity to regularly rejoin the Algeria squad.
That relationship with the supporters has developed through Chergui’s work on the pitch and his willingness to compete in every challenge. His representative expressed satisfaction at the esteem the defender has earned among Algeria fans.
Possible partnership with Bensebaini
The make-up of Algeria’s defence could change in the coming months following Aissa Mandi’s international retirement. Asked about Chergui’s possible role after Mandi’s departure, his agent said the Paris FC player had strong claims to operate in central defence alongside Ramy Bensebaini.
The possibility of that partnership has already been discussed with members of Algeria’s technical staff, according to the representative.
A place next to Bensebaini would give Chergui an opportunity to establish himself more firmly at international level. He must now maintain his form and convince the national-team manager that he deserves greater responsibility.
His return to competitive football with Paris FC is an important first step, but regular performances will determine whether he can take on a more prominent role with the Verts.
The defender’s agent remains confident in his ability to progress and believes Chergui can meet the expectations placed on him for both club and country. The player will now look to build momentum after his injury and demonstrate his qualities on the pitch.
Paris FC’s next fixture will be against Rennes on matchday seven of the French championship.
