Mohamed Salah’s chances of claiming the 2025 European Golden Boot now rest on a hat-trick performance in Liverpool’s final Premier League fixture against Crystal Palace.
The Egyptian forward failed to find the net in Liverpool’s penultimate match against Brighton, putting him at a disadvantage in the race for the continent’s top scorer honour.
With one game remaining, Salah sits on 28 league goals—just one behind Kylian Mbappe, who has netted 29 times for Paris Saint-Germain.
The Golden Boot is calculated on a points system that values goals in top-five European leagues at two points each.
That means Salah, currently on 56 points, would need to score at least three goals to reach 62 points and surpass Mbappe, should the Frenchman fail to score in Real Madrid’s final La Liga fixture against Real Sociedad.
Adding complexity to the race is Viktor Gyökeres, who scored 39 goals in the Portuguese league this season for Sporting CP.
However, the Portuguese league carries a slightly lower weight (1.5 points per goal), leaving him with 58.5 points—still within reach for both Salah and Mbappe.
With La Liga and the Premier League both wrapping up this weekend, the Golden Boot remains up for grabs.
Mbappe will aim to seal the award as Real Madrid take on Real Sociedad, while Salah knows only a standout performance at Anfield will give him any hope of snatching the prize at the last moment.
