Sael Kumbedi: Wolfsburgs FranceDR Congo right-back linked with Serie A move to Lazio
France-DR Congo right-back Sael Kumbedi of Wolfsburg is being linked with a summer move to Lazio, with the Serie A club monitoring the 21-year-old defenders situation in Germany.
Kumbedi, who joined Wolfsburg permanently from Olympique Lyon on 1 January 2026 after an initial loan spell, is listed with a market value of 12.00m on Transfermarkt. The rumour, dated 3 July 2026, carries an unspecified probability (?), underlining that talks are at a speculative stage rather than an advanced negotiation.
The Stains-born defender, 1.75m tall and right-footed, has risen quickly since emerging from Le Havres famed academy structure, where he progressed through the youth ranks from U17 to U19 before stepping up to the senior side. A move to Lyon in August 2022 accelerated his development, and his value climbed from 200,000 in mid-2022 to 12m by June 2023 during his breakthrough Ligue 1 campaign.
After a dip in valuation during an unstable period at Lyon, Kumbedis stock recovered following his switch to Wolfsburg, rising again to 12m by March 2026 and remaining at that level in May. Wolfsburg are now in the 2. Bundesliga, and with no public information on his contract length or expiry, outside interest naturally raises questions over whether he could eventually run down his deal and test the market as a free agent if no agreement is reached.
Kumbedi, who holds both French and DR Congo nationality, has yet to see his international future fully defined at senior level, but regular football in Serie A would enhance his profile in either set-up. Should the Lazio move materialise, it would represent another significant step in a career that has already taken him from Le Havre to Lyon and now Germany, and could further shape his reputation as one of Europes more promising young full-backs.
