Sadio Mane caught off guard by Amrabat surprise after Senegal’s AFCON triumph
Fresh from leading Senegal to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title, Sadio Mané was involved in a light-hearted but widely shared on-air moment with Moroccan international Nordin Amrabat that captured attention in the aftermath of Sunday’s dramatic final.
Mané played a decisive role as Senegal edged hosts Morocco 1-0 after extra time to lift the continental crown for the second time in their history. The final, staged in front of a packed stadium, was marked by controversy, tension and late drama before the Lions of Teranga emerged victorious.
During post-match television coverage, Mané appeared for a live interview to reflect on the achievement. Fully immersed in his conversation with the presenter, the Al Nassr winger initially failed to notice that Amrabat was present.
The moment only shifted when Amrabat jokingly interjected, saying: “Now it’s time to win a title with Al Nassr after winning one with Senegal.”
Mané turned to respond, briefly paused as he recognised Amrabat, then stepped forward smiling before warmly embracing the former Moroccan international.
The exchange quickly went viral on social media, with fans praising the mutual respect shown between the two players despite the intensity of the AFCON final only hours earlier.
Amrabat recently returned to the Botola Pro League after signing for Wydad Casablanca. His move followed a long and successful club career across Europe and the Middle East, including a notable spell in Saudi Arabia.
The 37-year-old spent three seasons at Al Nassr between 2018 and 2021, where he established himself as a key figure and helped the Riyadh-based club secure domestic honours, including league and Super Cup titles.
Mané, meanwhile, is expected to rejoin Al Nassr in the coming days following Senegal’s AFCON celebrations. Reports indicate the club is preparing a special reception to honour his contribution to the national team’s success, as attention gradually turns back to domestic commitments in Saudi Arabia.
