Rwanda set for Tanzania and Comoros tests in Morocco camp ahead of qualifiers
Rwanda will step up preparations for a decisive run of continental qualifiers with a focused training camp and two high-value friendlies against Tanzania and Comoros during the June FIFA international window.
The initiative, confirmed by Rwanda FA Secretary General Bonnie Mugabe, is designed to sharpen both the senior national team and the U23 side ahead of a demanding schedule later this year.
The 10-day programme will run from June 1 to 10 in Morocco, with sessions split between Agadir and Marrakech.
Rwanda intends to maximise the window by engaging both squads simultaneously, creating a competitive environment that allows the technical team to assess talent across levels while building cohesion within the national setup.
Mugabe confirmed that the Amavubi will first take on Tanzania before facing Comoros, in fixtures expected to offer a detailed measure of Rwanda’s tactical evolution.
The games will also serve as a platform to integrate emerging players and test combinations in different match scenarios, with an emphasis on adaptability and squad depth.
“We are planning to engage both the senior team and the U23 team during the upcoming FIFA international window,” Mugabe told Times Sport.
The choice of opponents is deliberate. Tanzania’s physical intensity presents a contrasting challenge, while Comoros have gained recognition in recent years for their discipline and structural organisation.
Facing both sides in quick succession is expected to give Rwanda a broader tactical examination ahead of competitive fixtures.
Beyond immediate performance, the camp forms a critical phase in Rwanda’s build-up to the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and the AFCON U23 and Olympic qualifiers scheduled for September and October.
With all three nations familiar foes in regional football, the friendlies carry added relevance, offering Rwanda a chance to benchmark progress against opponents they are likely to encounter again under higher stakes.
