Rwanda coach Adel Amrouche vows to upset South Africa in final World Cup qualifier
Head coach of Rwanda, Adel Amrouche has expressed strong confidence in his side ahead of the decisive 2026 World Cup qualifier against South Africa on Tuesday.
Rwanda takes on the Bafana Bafana at Mbombela Stadium in their final Group C qualifier, with South Africa, Benin Republic, and Nigeria all battling for the group’s sole automatic spot for the global showpiece.
Following his side’s disappointing result against the Benin Republic, Amrouche acknowledged his frustration with the outcome, describing it as a missed opportunity.
However, Amrouche was quick to shift focus to the South African showdown, reaffirming his belief in the squad’s resilience and ability to deliver a strong performance.
“We are disappointed, yes, because we wanted to win that match,” the Algerian tactician told reporters. “But this is football. What matters now is our reaction — and I can assure you, we will not go down easily against South Africa. We will fight for every ball.”
“It’s not over until the final whistle, this is about dignity, identity, and the Rwandan spirit. South Africa will meet a team that refuses to give up.”
Currently, Benin sit top of Group C with 17 points, needing a win to confirm their place for the biggest soccer mundial to be staged in the USA, Canada and Mexico next year.
Meanwhile, a draw could still be sufficient for Benin if South Africa fail to overcome Rwanda at Mbombela Stadium.
Nigeria, on the other hand, will have to secure victory over Benin and await the outcome of the South Africa’s encounter with Rwanda to determine their fate for qualification.
