Fabio Capello has expressed his commitment to remain the coach of the Russian national football team until the 2018 World Cup, which will be hosted by the country. Despite receiving offers, including one to coach the Italian national team, Capello has declined and emphasized his dedication to his work with the Russian team.
“I have already rejected an offer to take care of the Italian selection. I will be focused on my work with the Russian selection until 2018,” stated Capello in an interview with the ITAR-TASS agency. His decision is well-received by Russian football officials, acknowledging the positive impact he has had on the team.
“He works very well with the team and he has brought out many young players. He has good contacts with Russian clubs and I think he can still bring us more,” said Vitaly Mutko, the Russian Minister of Sports.
“Capello’s new contract is absolutely one of our priorities. Work in this direction is in full swing,” added Nikolai Tolstykh, the president of the Russian Football Federation. Fabio Capello has been coaching the Russian national team since July 16, 2012.
