Rushine De Reuck set to join Maccabi Petah Tikva in Israeli Premier League

Mamelodi Sundowns central defender Rushine De Reuck is preparing to depart the South African club for a loan move to Israeli side Maccabi Petah Tikva, according to reports.

The transfer marks a new chapter for the 28-year-old, who is seeking regular playing time after struggling with injuries and heightened competition at Sundowns.

The move, which has surprised many, follows a period of uncertainty for De Reuck at Sundowns.

Initially, the player considered a potential loan to South African club Sekhukhune United, but Sundowns rejected the proposal, citing the desire not to strengthen a direct competitor.

Instead, the club has accepted an offer from Maccabi Petah Tikva, where De Reuck will join on a six-month loan, with an option to extend the arrangement beyond the current season.

The transfer is subject to De Reuck passing a medical examination and completing the necessary administrative procedures, with his departure now imminent.

A Fresh Start for De Reuck

For De Reuck, the move to Maccabi Petah Tikva represents a crucial opportunity to reignite his career.

After joining Mamelodi Sundowns from Maritzburg United in January 2021, De Reuck initially impressed, making 28 appearances in all competitions during his debut season.

His performances earned him a call-up to the South African national team under coach Hugo Broos.

However, a series of injuries and the arrival of new defensive reinforcements at Sundowns have limited his playing time in recent seasons.

The loan to Maccabi Petah Tikva offers De Reuck a chance to regain match fitness and secure a more prominent role in a competitive league.

His representation by Siyavuma Sports Group suggests that the player may also be eyeing a potential move to Europe in the future, with this loan deal providing an important platform for that ambition.

Sundowns’ Strategy for Player Development

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso recently confirmed the club’s efforts to explore opportunities for players struggling for game time.

“We retain certain players because we sometimes do not have the means to offer them solutions in the PSL, but it is not because they do not interest us,” Cardoso stated in a recent press conference.

“We are actively working to find opportunities, particularly in Europe, to allow them to flourish and promote our club internationally.”

The move to Maccabi Petah Tikva is a clear reflection of Sundowns’ commitment to their players’ development, even when regular playing opportunities are limited within the domestic league.

A Return to Europe

Before his successful stint in South Africa, De Reuck had brief exposure to European football, playing for FC Parcos in Portugal during his youth.

This move to Israel could mark a significant turning point in his career, potentially paving the way for a future move to more prestigious European leagues.
