Wydad Casablanca defender, Fahd Moufi has opened up about the exit of Rulani Mokwena and has expressed his frustration over the team’s failure to secure a spot in the CAF Champions League.
The South African trainer has been shown the exit and has been replaced by Amin Benhachem as the interim coach.
This decision was made after the 38-year-old coach failed to achieve favourable outcomes with the team, leading the club’s management to relieve him of his duties.
However, Mokwena attended Wydad’s last match of the 2024/25 campaign as he bid farewell to the club he joined at the beginning of the season.
The Red Castle finished the 2024/25 Botola Pro League in third place in the standings, which qualified them to participate in the CAF Confederation Cup in the upcoming season.
Benhachem has won all three matches while Mokwena was away, with the most recent win being a 2-0 victory against Renaissance Zemamra on Sunday.
Speaking on the team’s disappointing performance, Moufi acknowledged that Mokwena’s tenure did not yield the desired results despite efforts to improve the club’s circumstances.
“We are back in the Confederation Cup, but we are not happy because our goal was to qualify for the CAF Champions League and make the fans happy. Despite that, we say thank God,” Moufi said per M.elbotola.
“Mokwena did his job, but the ball wasn’t on his side. Benhachem came and changed the atmosphere and everything, and now we see the good work he’s doing,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mokwena will take home $1 million following his exit from the club.
