Algerian giants MC Alger have approached to sign South African forward Cassius Mailula on loan from FC Toronto.

Rulani Mokwena, who has been confirmed as the new head coach of MC Alger was instrumental in the rise of Mailula from the DStv Diski Challenge into the senior side at Mamelodi Sundowns.

During his breakout season, Mailula scored 15 goals, with four assists in 31 games across all competitions.

It led to a place in the senior national team and eventually a lucrative move to Major League Soccer (MLS) side Toronto, where things didn’t quite go to plan as the club struggled in the league and had a couple of coaching changes.

Mailula never managed to establish himself in the first eleven and was lured to Morocco by Wydad Athletic Club when Mokwena took charge for the 2024/25 season.

He netted six goals and registered seven assists in 36 games and was part of the squad that featured at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup – where he scored one of the club’s two goals – before his loan ended.

Ahead of the new football season, MCA are hoping to secure the services of the 24-year-old.
