MC Alger head coach Rulani Mokwena has taken an unusual step to make amends with supporters after his team’s unexpected CAF Champions League defeat to Saint-Éloi Lupopo last weekend.
The Algerian champions currently sit third in Group D with four points from four matches. They suffered a 1-0 loss to the Congolese debutants before bouncing back with a 2-0 victory in the return leg.
Mokwena revealed that he personally met with fans at the airport on their return to Algeria, offering to cover their flights as a gesture of apology.
“I feel guilty and apologize to the fans for the results we have recorded so far in this competition. We will do everything we can to qualify,” Mokwena told reporters, as per WinWin.
“After the poor performance we gave in the Democratic Republic of Congo, I met some fans at the airport on the way back to Algeria and offered to pay for their plane tickets as an apology to them.”
MC Alger will face El Hilal SC El Obeid in their next CAF Champions League fixture.
