Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has informed the club’s hierarchy that he does not want a new goalkeeper in the upcoming summer transfer window, despite persistent concerns over Andre Onana’s form.
According to reports, Amorim has made it clear to United’s board that strengthening other areas of the squad is of greater importance.
The Cameroon international has faced criticism throughout the season for several high-profile errors, but the manager remains committed to him as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Amorim is understood to be pushing for reinforcements elsewhere, specifically targeting a new striker, a central midfielder, a central defender and a left-back.
With United’s transfer budget expected to be limited, the Portuguese tactician believes those positions require more urgent attention as he seeks to reshape the squad ahead of next season.
Onana, who joined from Inter Milan, has had a turbulent debut campaign at Old Trafford.
However, Amorim appears convinced that the 29-year-old can regain his best form with the right support around him.
The decision to retain Onana will also allow the club to avoid another significant outlay on a goalkeeper, potentially freeing up funds for key additions in outfield positions.
Despite speculation linking United with potential replacements, including interest from the Saudi Pro League in Onana himself, there have been no concrete offers for the former Ajax man.
The club would reportedly consider selling the goalkeeper if an offer in the region of £20 million were received, though Amorim’s stance may shift that threshold higher.
