Ruben Amorim has hinted at a potential positional shift for Kobbie Mainoo following his standout performance in Manchester United’s 4-0 Europa League victory over FCSB.
Typically a central midfielder, Mainoo was deployed in a more advanced role, where he excelled by providing an assist for Diogo Dalot and scoring a goal from Alejandro Garnacho’s pass.
Amorim praised Mainoo’s flexibility, noting that he performed better as a number 10 rather than in midfield.
Kobbie was struggling to defend in midfield, but as a number 10, he is more free and performs better near the box,” he said.
The win secured United’s direct passage to the Europa League last 16, avoiding the play-offs.
Amorim also commended Garnacho and Amad Diallo’s contributions, citing Garnacho’s speed and Diallo’s effectiveness in one-on-one situations.
Despite missed chances, Amorim lauded his team’s control and possession throughout the match.
