Manchester United’s teenage striker Chido Obi is poised for increased Premier League action as manager Ruben Amorim shifts focus to the Europa League.
Obi, a 17-year-old forward of Nigerian descent, has impressed since joining United from Arsenal in 2024.
Born in Denmark to Nigerian parents, he has represented both Denmark and England at youth levels and is eligible to play for Nigeria.
Obi made his senior debut in February against Tottenham Hotspur, becoming United’s third-youngest Premier League player.
His performances have caught Amorim’s attention, especially amid injuries to key attackers.
The manager acknowledged the challenges of introducing young players during a difficult season but emphasized the necessity.
“It’s not the best moment or the best season to put some kids to play because again they need a strong base to really show what they can do, but in this moment we need to do it. And sometimes you have surprises.”
Amorim specifically mentioned Obi’s contributions:
“Chido (Obi), when he played he played quite well. It’s a difficult moment, it’s not the right moment for the kids to play, but if we have to do it we will do it.”
When asked about Obi’s future involvement, Amorim confirmed:
“Will Obi get more minutes? Yes, I think so. Yes.”
