RS Berkane are Morocco’s Botola Pro champions for the 2024-25 season, their maiden top-flight title in the history of the club.
The Oranges made history on Saturday night after a 1-1 draw with Union Touarga, a result that took them to 60 points from 25 matches—an unbeatable margin with five matches left to play in the season.
Oussama Lamlioui put Berkane ahead in the 66th minute, sparking wild celebrations among the club’s raucous supporters.
The celebrations were, however, temporarily paused when Union Touarga’s Younes Dahmani equalized seven minutes from time.
Despite the late shock, the final whistle confirmed Berkane’s place in Moroccan football history as champions for the first time ever.
Berkane’s win is a culmination of years of steady growth.
The club, which was founded in 1938, has enjoyed continental and domestic success in recent years, including two CAF Confederation Cup titles.
However, the league title had eluded them—until now.
Under the guidance of head coach Moine Chaabani, Berkane have been the dominant force this season, with a tight defensive record and a balanced attack.
Their consistency and resilience saw them outlast traditional powerhouses like Wydad Club Athletic and Raja Casablanca.
Fans poured onto the streets of Berkane in celebration, singing and waving club flags into the early hours of the night.
With five games left, the club can now focus on completing the season in style and preparing for next season’s CAF Champions League.
