Rosenior hails Caicedo commitment as Chelsea lock in midfield cornerstone
Liam Rosenior has underlined the importance of stability and leadership at Chelsea after midfielder Moises Caicedo committed his long-term future to the club by signing a new contract extension at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea confirmed earlier this month that the Ecuador international had agreed improved terms, a deal that places him among the squad’s top earners and reinforces his status as a central figure in the club’s long-term project.
Since arriving from Brighton in 2023, Caicedo has steadily grown into a key presence in midfield, registering eight goals and 11 assists in 140 appearances across all competitions.
The 24-year-old’s consistency has made him indispensable in recent seasons, particularly after he featured in every Premier League match last campaign. His reliability and durability have strengthened the club’s belief that he remains a cornerstone for the future under the new coaching structure.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s meeting with Brighton, Rosenior welcomed the agreement, stressing both the player’s influence on and off the pitch and the significance of securing his future amid growing competition for elite midfield talent.
“He leads by example, and we’re delighted he’s committed his long-term future to the club,” Rosenior said.
He went on to highlight the midfielder’s intensity and work ethic, adding: “He’s somebody who leads by example in his bravery and the way he takes the ball, the way that he presses and tackles and runs and fights for the team.”
According to Rosenior, those qualities align closely with the standards required to build a winning side, particularly in a squad undergoing continued evolution.
The extension also signals Chelsea’s intent to safeguard their most influential young players, with captain Reece James also tied to the club beyond 2030.
Behind the scenes, attention is now turning to further contract renewals, with defender Levi Colwill reportedly close to finalising a long-term agreement as discussions progress.
