Ronald Araujo says Liverpool move has revealed a new kind of Premier League challenge

Ronald Araujo says every minute of his Liverpool career has felt like a battle as he adapts to the pace and physical demands of the Premier League.

The Uruguay defender joined Liverpool from Barcelona this summer after Ibrahima Konate moved to Real Madrid. His arrival was intended to strengthen the right side of Liverpool’s defence, with Jeremie Frimpong having failed to deliver the performances expected of him.

Araujo has won major honours in Spain with Barcelona, but believes the Premier League places greater emphasis on speed and physical strength.

“There is no doubt that La Liga should never be underestimated,” he said. “It is a league distinguished by outstanding tactics and technical brilliance, and I learned a great deal from winning trophies there.

“But the Premier League is on a completely different level in terms of physical strength and speed. I firmly believe that if any defender can establish himself at this level, impose his presence, withstand the weekly battles and excel in England, he could return to La Liga and dominate it without any difficulty.”

Araujo ended by making clear that he is prepared to compete for his place at Anfield.

“Every minute I spend here is a battle, and I am ready to fight for my place at Anfield,” he said.

His comments underline the immediate adjustment required of players moving between Spain and England, with Araujo contrasting La Liga’s tactical and technical qualities with the relentless intensity he has encountered since joining Liverpool.

The defender’s assessment came after Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest, one of the early matches in which he experienced the demands of the Premier League from the pitch.
