As of this weekend, Roger Milla has lost his title as the oldest player (42 years and 39 days) to represent an African national team. This distinction now belongs to Kersley Appou, a Mauritian player aged 43, who made an appearance last Saturday during the first round of the CAN 2015 preliminaries in Nouakchott against Mauritania (resulting in a 0-1 loss).
However, neither Milla nor Appou holds the record for the oldest player to participate in a professional football match. That distinction goes to MacDonald Taylor Sr from the Virgin Islands, who played at the age of 46 years and 217 days.
Nevertheless, Roger Milla still retains the record for the oldest player to both participate in and score a goal at a World Cup. This feat was achieved in 1994 during Cameroon’s 1-4 defeat against Russia.
