Algerian international Riyad Mahrez guided his Saudi club Al-Ahli to a crucial victory against Al-Shabab on Saturday, securing a 2-1 win in the 31st round of the “Roshn” League.
Trailing since the 19th minute, Al-Ahli found themselves in a tough spot until Mahrez’s intervention just before halftime.
In the 45+10th minute, Mahrez showcased his skill by orchestrating the equalizer with a brilliant dribble past a Shabab defender, before providing a precise pass to Ivorian Frank Kessie, who buried the ball into the net with a powerful shot.
By the 77th minute, with Al-Ahli leading 2-1, German coach Matthias Jaissle decided to substitute the Algerian player, a move that Mahrez vehemently protested against. In a fit of anger, Mahrez stormed off the pitch, visibly upset by the decision.
It’s worth noting that Mahrez, who joined Al-Ahli from Manchester City last summer, has been instrumental in the team’s attacking efforts throughout the season.
With 12 assists and 11 goals in 32 appearances across league and cup competitions, Mahrez has proven to be a vital contributor to Al-Ahli’s success.
