Riyad Mahrez delivered a match-winning performance to fire Al Ahli into the Asian Champions League quarter-finals, scoring twice in a 2-0 victory over Al Rayyan.
The result, combined with a 3-1 first-leg win, sealed a 5-1 aggregate triumph for the Saudi club, ensuring their place in the next stage of the competition.
Mahrez delivers when it matters
The Algerian winger was at the heart of Al Ahli’s attacking play, orchestrating moves with four key passes and five shots on goal.
His breakthrough came in the 77th minute, receiving the ball inside the box with his back to goal before executing a composed turn and chipping it delicately past the goalkeeper.
Just six minutes later, Mahrez struck again. A swift attacking move saw Gabi Veiga set up the former Manchester City star, who finished clinically inside the area to double his tally for the night and seal Al Ahli’s progression.
With this brace, Mahrez has now recorded eight goals and seven assists in the competition, reinforcing his importance to Matías Almeyda’s squad as they chase continental glory.
