Ridwan Popoola: Al-Wasl sign Nigerian midfielder from Kisvarda in permanent deal

Al-Wasl have completed the signing of Nigerian defensive midfielder Ridwan Popoola from Hungarian side Kisvarda FC in a permanent transfer. The 19-year-old moves to the UAE Pro League club after a deal was finalised on 6 July 2026, with the fee undisclosed.

Popoola joins Al-Wasl as a right-footed holding midfielder, having established himself in Hungarys top flight with Kisvarda. Standing at 1.91m, he adds significant physical presence at the base of midfield for the Dubai club as they reshape their squad for the new campaign.

The move continues a rapid rise for the Nigeria youth prospect, who only left Seamoriow FC in his homeland for Kisvarda in February 2025. In less than 18 months in Hungarys NB I, his development was reflected in a sharp increase in his valuation, with his market value climbing from 100,000 in May 2025 to 600,000 by May 2026.

Popoolas switch from European football to the UAE Pro League marks his first move outside the European system since leaving Nigeria. At Al-Wasl he is listed as part of the clubs midfield unit, providing depth and competition in the defensive midfield role.

Born on 14 November 2006, Popoola arrives at Al-Wasl having turned 19 last season and with recent experience in senior football in both Nigeria and Hungary. His current estimated market value stands at 600,000 as he begins the next stage of his career in the United Arab Emirates.
