Riccardo Calafiori scores fastest FA Community Shield goal in 58 years

Riccardo Calafiori scored after just 23 seconds to give Arsenal the fastest goal in the FA Community Shield for 58 years during their meeting with Manchester City.

The Arsenal defender struck with the opening goal after an excellent piece of play from Lewis-Skelly, whose precise pass created the opportunity. Calafiori finished by sending the ball past Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The goal was the quickest scored in the competition since 1968, when Bobby Owen found the net for Manchester City against West Bromwich Albion.

The FA Community Shield has traditionally brought together the winners of English football’s major domestic competitions, making the match an early opportunity for clubs to claim silverware. For Arsenal, the fixture was also a chance to add to their total of 17 victories and move closer to Manchester United’s competition record.

Manchester City entered the match as holders, having last won the shield in 2024. Arsenal’s previous triumph came a year earlier, in 2023.
