USM Alger forward Riad Benayad has returned to full training after recovering from a thigh injury that sidelined him ahead of the club’s recent derby against CR Belouizdad.
Timely boost for USM Alger
Benayad, 28, was forced to withdraw from the squad just before the highly anticipated Ligue 1 clash on March 16.
However, following eight days of recovery, the striker has now rejoined team training, participating in a full session on Tuesday night.
His return comes as a major boost for USM Alger, who are preparing for two crucial matches in domestic and continental competitions.
The Algerian club faces CR Temouchent in the quarter-finals of the Algerian Cup in just two days, and Benayad’s availability adds depth to the squad ahead of the knockout fixture.
Additionally, with the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final against CS Constantine looming in a week’s time, his return strengthens the team’s attacking options at a critical stage of the season.
Encouraging signs ahead of key matches
Since joining USM Alger on January 29, Benayad has featured in six matches, registering one assist.
The former Espérance de Tunis striker’s presence in the squad will be welcomed by coach Bouzidi as the club navigates a demanding fixture schedule.
His return also comes at a time when USM Alger is looking to improve its form in both domestic and international competitions.
With the Algerian Cup and the CAF Confederation Cup presenting significant opportunities for silverware, having an experienced forward like Benayad fit and available could prove vital.
As preparations intensify for the upcoming matches, USM Alger will be hoping that Benayad can quickly regain match fitness and contribute to the team’s success in the crucial weeks ahead.
