Despite being in Cairo for days, Jose Riveiro has yet to be announced as the new head coach of Al Ahly.
The Spanish manager left his position at Orlando Pirates to sign a two-year contract with the Egyptian giants, as revealed by AfricaSoccer.com.
He will replace Swiss coach Marcel Koller, who was dismissed after failing to retain the CAF Champions League title.
However, multiple Egyptian media outlets say the club’s management plans to delay the formal unveiling until after the team’s final match of the current season.
This decision reportedly comes as Al Ahly want interim coach Emad El-Nahhas to complete the campaign, especially following a series of positive results that have lifted the team to the top of the championship playoffs standings.
Currently, Al Ahly lead the table by two points over Pyramids FC. A win or draw against Pharco FC on Wednesday would secure the league title for El-Nahhas’ side.
If the announcement is postponed, Riveiro will officially begin his tenure at Al Ahly during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup next month.
In the tournament, Al Ahly will compete in Group A alongside Inter Miami, FC Porto, and Palmeiras.
