Chelsea will complete the signing of young midfielder Dario Essugo at the end of the season.
The 20-year-old Portugal U21 international of Angolan descent has been given the green light to move, as Chelsea continues to strengthen their squad for the future.
Essugo is currently on loan at Spanish club Las Palmas, where he has been a regular this season.
New information reaching Africasoccer indicates that before Chelsea reached an agreement to sign Dario Essugo, Liverpool had been monitoring the midfielder and was confident of securing his services.
It is understood that the Reds were keen on signing the youngster for him to understudy Ryan Gravenberch.
Although Liverpool were prepared to meet the €22 million asking price for Essugo, the club was beaten to the signing of the player after Chelsea offered to put him on a €100,000 per week salary.
This offer was better than the €50,000 per week Liverpool were prepared to pay.
Eventually, the player is said to have opted to join Chelsea instead and will seal the deal in the summer window.
