As preparations for the African Cup of Nations 2025 and the 2030 World Cup continue, renovation works at various sports stadiums across the hosting nations are in full swing, including the Agadir Stadium in Morocco.
Agadir Stadium is undergoing extensive upgrades, particularly to its external facilities and surroundings. A massive perimeter wall has been constructed around the stadium to ensure security measures are in place during match days, adhering to international standards for crowd control.
The construction of the perimeter wall follows international standards, ensuring smooth crowd flow. Additionally, several external facilities such as restrooms, reception areas, and stadium entrances have been built or refurbished.
One of the significant challenges faced by the project managers is the stadium’s surrounding area, which has been a concern in previous years.
However, plans are in place to transform this space into green areas, accompanied by the construction of training fields, additional facilities, a large parking garage, and an event square for exhibitions and celebrations.
During the initial phase of the renovation works, slated for completion before the 2025 African Cup of Nations, the focus will be on the external preparations.
Following the conclusion of the tournament, the stadium will undergo further internal renovations to meet FIFA requirements.
Future plans include removing the rubber track surrounding the pitch, constructing additional stands akin to those at the Tangier Stadium, fully roofing the stadium, and updating the stadium facade, lighting, and other internal facilities such as storage areas.
